Keep your Plumbing Fit for the Holidays

Keep your Plumbing Fit for the Holidays
By Hannah Haseloff

The holidays are just around the corner, which means there is food to bake, presents to buy, and cards to send. With all the holiday preparations, the last thing any house needs is plumbing problems. Here are some tips that can help to eliminate those pesky plumbing problems this time of year.

Water Heater

Extra guests can mean extra showers. Prepare for the arrival of guests by checking water heater temperatures and pressure relief by opening the valve and catching the water in a bucket. The water should come out at a "normal rate." If it drips or spews, something is most likely wrong. Call your Mr. Rooter® plumber right away! Ask your Mr. Rooter technician about a tankless water heater to make things easier for next year!

Drain Safety

Before guests arrive, clean out shower drains and place a strainer to catch hair to avoid any clogging problems.

Disposal Dos and Don'ts

With all the holiday dishwashing to be done, it is important to put as little strain on the kitchen disposal as possible. Remember that bones, fats and cooking oils should not be placed in the disposal or go down the drain. Scrape extra food into the trash before rinsing off the dishes to limit the amount of food going in to the disposal.

Prepare your Bathroom

Keep the bathroom stocked with extra toilet paper, clean towels, soap, shampoo and conditioners for guests. Using candles or potpourri is a great way to limit unwanted smells as well as add a little extra décor to the bathroom.

When in Doubt, call Mr. Rooter
