Tip#3: Locate your water supply shut off
All moms should know where the water supply shut offs are located. You know emergencies happen; it’s just a matter of when. My emergencies tend to happen when the man of the house isn’t home. So, it is up to me to know where all the important stuff is located.
Watch this Mr. Rooter video on main water supply shut off. A main water supply shut off is good for events like leaking or broken water lines.
It is necessary to know where the individual shut off valves are to your toilet, sinks, tub/shower, and washing machine. I have had to turn the emergency shut off to my toilet that constantly ran. It saved water and money until a plumber came out. Here are diagrams with yellow highlighted boxes on the emergency shut offs. The diagrams follow the typical house layout but it can vary from house to house. If you are unable to locate your emergency shut offs contact your plumber. In some cases an emergency shut off was never installed under a sink (for example) and a shut off will need to be installed as soon as possible.
