In most homes, we tend to put everything down the kitchen sink but the kitchen sink! Because of this, they can often become clogged with food, grease and even soap. For bad clogs, it may be necessary to hire a Tacoma plumber for the job, but there are a few easy and safe techniques you can use before resorting to doing so.
Many drain cleaners you can purchase from a hardware store are made of toxic chemicals that many home owners do not wish to have in their home or use in their drain. Many times, these can cause damage to the drain and injury to whoever is using them. Fortunately, there are many ways to unclog your drain without using harsh chemicals.
Boil a large pot of water and then pour into the sink as forcefully as you can, without having the water splash back at you. Extremely hot water can break up a minor clog that is close to the surface of the drain. If this doesn’t work, you can try to use a plunger to get the job done. Plunging takes great force to be able to work effectively, so be careful when using a plunger. First, if your sink is two-sided, block the unclogged side with a plastic plate to be able to achieve the most suction while you plunge.
You may have to plunge the sink several times to dislodge the clog. If this doesn’t work, you can try to repeat the boiling water and plunging again, but if the clog is still a problem, it may be time to call Mr Rooter of Tacoma to fix the problem!
