Simple Ways to Save Water As a Family
Wednesday, March 16, 2016 - 11:39am
Now that the sunshine has been peeking out a bit and reminding us of all of those warm weather activities that we like to do, it is a good time to start the preparation!
Pre-spring cleaning can be a huge help in saving time and having plenty of leeway for getting all of the tasks on your list checked off. So many times, we have been dormant all winter that when the March weather starts to break with sunshine a little, we get overly motivated and make a spring cleaning list that is just too big.
Saving water around your home is an everyday task, and there are so many ways that every single member of your family can participate. When you work to save water, not only are you having a positive impact on the environment but also on your water bill.
Here are some simple was that you and your family can work to save water this month:
- Once it comes time to water your lawn, make sure you are only water during the early morning hours of the day. The rest of the day is when the sun is the hottest and when the water that you put on the lawn will most likely evaporate.
- Consider installing a drip system for shrubs, bushes, and gardens to make sure that you are water as efficiently as possible. This is especially important if you have a vegetable garden that needs regular watering.
- Walk around the outside of your home and check to make sure that your outdoor hose bibs and fixtures do not have leaks or clogs. While you may not be using them for another couple of months, you want to make sure they are properly working when you do need them.
- With all of the debris on your walkways and driveway, make sure to use a leaf blower or broom to clean it rather than the garden hose.
There are many tasks that you can accomplish before the spring cleaning season arrives. These tasks are not weather dependent but can still have a huge impact on the efficiency of your home. One task that is a big one, and should actually be done all year around, is water conservation.
