Plumbing Checklist When Buying a Home in Central Pennsylvania
For many individuals, buying a home is the ultimate goal. Because this is a place where you will potentially live for the remainder of your life, you want to ensure that there is nothing wrong with the location and that everything is working properly. One of the most important things you can check before buying a home is the plumbing. Before you purchase a Central Pennsylvania home, make sure you run through a plumbing checklist, including the following.
Turn On Faucets
As you pass sinks and bathtubs in the home, make sure you turn on the water for at least 10 seconds. This can give you a good idea if the water is backing up due to a potential clog in the drains. As you turn on each faucet, let it run until some water builds up. If it doesn’t drain quickly, there may be an issue you need to look into.
Check Water Pressure
As you turn on the shower and sink to check for clogs, keep an eye on the water pressure as well. For a number of homeowners, low water pressure can be an issue often resulting from clogs or leaks in the plumbing. You don’t want to find out later that the water pressure is inadequate and either need to fix the plumbing or the water pressure regulator.
Inspect the Water Meter
Your water meter determines how much water is used, thus dictating your bill from the water company. One potential way to check for a plumbing problem, such as a leak, is to check the water meter. Record the reading and proceed inspecting the home without using any water for about two hours if possible. Check the meter again and if it has moved at all, it could mean there is a leak that needs your attention.
