While the weather still feels like summer, make no mistake residents of Oregon, Autumn is approaching quickly. Football is back on TV, leaves are changing colors, and the sun is slightly rising later each day. Now is the perfect time to start preparing your home for the new season as the weather conditions begin to change. Mr. Rooter Plumbing has some tips to help make sure your home is ready:
- Clean out the gutters
Making sure your gutters and downspouts are clear of debris and leaves is very helpful for preventing future clogs in your rain drains. If you’re unable to clean out the gutters, we recommend hiring a professional to make sure there are no leaves or debris that will be blocking water drainage.
- Double check the water heater
When the morning air starts to get colder, there’s nothing better than a warm shower. That’s why it’s important to make sure your water heater is running properly and won’t have any problems this autumn. Call a professional to come inspect it, in case it may need to be drained or is near its expiration date.
- Disconnect outdoor hoses
Hoses will no longer be necessary in the near future as the weather conditions start pointing towards rain. When that time comes, it’s time to wrap up your hose and return it to its storage area. Make sure to drain the hose before putting it away. If water is left inside, winter temperatures can freeze it and cause damage to the hose.
- Inspect exterior faucets
While the weather is still nice, it’s important to inspect all outdoor faucets and make sure they’re properly working and there are no signs of leaks. Being prepared and taking care of any potential issues ahead of time will save you from a headache later this winter. If you’re not sure how to properly inspect it, call a local plumber to help you get a complete diagnosis.
