Winterize Exterior Faucets
Next week’s weather forecast shows freezing temperatures accompanied with snow! Before the winter blast hits, it’s important to get your home prepared to prevent freezing pipes and plumbing repairs! If you’re a homeowner who hasn’t already covered their exterior faucets, now is the time to do so. First, locate the shut off valve to each exterior hose bibb and turn it off to stop the water from flowing. Once it’s turned off, open up the hose bibb to allow any residual water to drain out. This will prevent any water left in the pipe from freezing. Finally, place a cover over every exterior hose bibb. If you’re unable to locate the shut off valve or don’t have one, placing covers over the exterior hose bibbs will do the job.
Service the Water Heater
Nobody wants to deal with the inconvenience of having no hot water during the winter. Check for these signs to tell whether or not your water heater may need to be serviced:
- Insufficient water temperature.
- Shorter length of time with hot water.
- Leaking water directly from or near the water heater.
- Irregular noises coming from the tank.
- Discoloration of water.
