    1. Keep your home heated at a constant temperature. Set your thermostat to at least 55 degrees Fahrenheit to be on the safe side. If you’re going to be away from home for an extended period of time, make sure you turn off the water supply to your home.

    3. If you do experience a frozen pipe, don’t try to thaw it with a blowtorch or other open flame. Instead, use a hairdryer on low heat, or pour warm water over the frozen section of the pipe until it thaws. If the frozen pipe is in a difficult-to-reach place, call a plumber for assistance.
