Our 1960 home had a mix of galvanized and copper piping and the water showed signs that the pipes were failing. We got estimates from three companies for a full house repipe, including a new water line from the meter. Gianni Olivo at Mr. Rooter was the middle priced estimate and I chose him to do the project for several reasons. The first is that Gianni spent a couple of hours at the house on his first visit, explored the very tight crawlspace, and discovered solutions to problems the other two companies didn’t. (For example, both other companies told me they would cut into the tile showers and install large chrome plates over the holes. Gianni measured the hallway and the showers, opened the coat closet in the entry hall, and pointed out that both showers backed into the closet and we could open walls inside the closet and not need to cut the tile at all.) Gianni also scoped the sewer before we signed the contract and looked at our cast iron drains and told me they looked good and didn’t need to be replaced at this time. The other two companies said it would be “a good idea” to replace the drains, but didn’t offer to scope any drains. One of the companies didn’t even go into the crawlspace. The drains would have added a significant amount to an already expensive project. I respected Gianni’s honesty about the condition of the drains, and if they need to be replaced in the coming years we will call Mr. Rooter. As to be expected in a 65 year old home, once we opened the walls we found unexpected conditions that required creative solutions. Gianni was flexible and worked with us to minimize the need to open additional walls. He worked in a very low-clearance crawlspace and an attic that was accessible only by an opening in the top of the garage. During the multi-day project Gianni called me at the end of the work day with an update of his progress, and he called when he found “unusual” circumstances that required a change in our plan. We will continue to use Mr. Rooter for all of our plumbing needs because of this excellent experience!

On 5/22/2025 We had a clogged pipe that backed up into our basement laundry room. I called Mr. Rooter, and they had Jason come out here within less an hour. Jason came in and assessed the situation and explained to us what had happened and how to prevent it. He also took the time to check all the piping after getting things fixed & up and running which all looked good (which put our minds at ease as this is my childhood home built in 1974) he also replaced some piping under our kitchen sink (free of charge). By the time Jason left that night, which was late, we were beyond satisfied with our experience. Jason was kind, courteous, and informative.

We tried every conceivable DIY solution to our backed up basement floor drain possible before calling Mr. Rooter. When their service man Phil turned up (very promptly) he outlined what would need to be done. At first I was dubious about the cost, but after watching Phil perform all the very difficult, and physical tasks involved, I realized that “you get what you pay for.” Phil is a dedicated practitioner of his craft and gave every measure to solving our problem. The results speak for themselves, our main sewer pipe is clear all the way to the city street pipe.

In most cases, dripping faucets are caused by worn parts like washers and valve seats that can wear out with constant faucet-turning, as well as mineral build-up. If you have high water pressure, you may experience a dripping faucet — contact an experienced plumber to test the pressure and make adjustments. Living somewhere with hard water may mean dripping faucets are a common problem because minerals and solids can build up and eventually cause rust to form. If you’re unsure what’s causing your dripping faucet and don’t know how to fix it, reach out to a plumbing service provider to repair it for you.
-
If you’ve recently performed maintenance or an inspection and now have low water pressure, check your primary water shutoff valves to make sure they’re both completely open. Contact a plumbing professional in your area if you have low water pressure since pipe blockages can sometimes cause these issues. If you’ve noticed that your water pressure changes from high to low or the other way around without much warning time, it could be a problem with your water pressure regulator. Talk to a trusted plumbing service provider in your area about a possible broken pipe if you have low water pressure and unusual wet patches in your yard.
-
If you have a slow-draining sink and don’t feel confident tackling it yourself, contact a plumbing service provider in your area to identify the cause and fix it. Oftentimes, sinks draining slowly are caused by soap scum and grease, so try pouring baking soda and vinegar down your drain to see if it clears it or speeds up the draining process. Some blockages in pipes from sinks can be hard to shift, so try inserting a plumbing snake into your drain, twisting it, and pulling out any possible clogs. P-traps can be a common and frustrating cause of slow-draining sinks but are fortunately easy for you or a plumbing professional to clean out.
-
Don’t underestimate the value of regular plumbing maintenance tasks like water heater flushes and drain cleaning services to prevent plumbing leaks so that you can identify possible problems. Maintaining your pipes’ health can involve being mindful of what you pour down your drain, like avoiding paper products, grease, oil, and coffee grounds. As high water pressure can lead to plumbing leaks due to pipe damage, install a pressure regulator or check your water pressure often if you have this issue. As wintry weather can sometimes cause pipe leaks and damage, you may like to prepare your pipes for the winter ahead by insulating, covering, and protecting them.
-
When you’re at a loss as to why your sink has a foul odor, contact a plumbing service provider to diagnose and remedy the problem on your behalf. Bacteria love to hang out on blockages and clogs in sinks, producing foul-smelling waste, so check your sink for possible obstructions that may be causing the odor. Sewer-like smells coming from a sink are generally sewer gases, which can enter your home when the P-traps dry out from the sinks not being used very much. Be sure to check your garbage disposal if you notice unpleasant odors around your sink, as it can accumulate bacteria, mold, and decomposing food that lead to bad smells.
-
A small water heater that can’t cater to all household occupants is a common reason your water isn’t getting hot enough — your demands exceed supply. Make sure your water heater thermostat isn’t set too low, but refrain from setting it any higher than 120 degrees, as this can present a severe risk of second and third-degree burns. If you have an older water heater, the inner components could be broken, such as gas valves, thermostats, and heating elements, that are stopping your water from heating. When you’re not having any luck diagnosing the reason for a lack of hot water, contact a plumber in your area who can identify the problem.
-
A leaking pipe, fixture, or faucet is often to blame for an abnormally high water bill, so reach out to a local trusted plumber to confirm. There can be a genuine risk of wasteful runoff and excess consumption with outdoor irrigation systems, so check your system’s settings to see if it’s contributing to your high water bill. Don’t forget to consider any water-using appliances on your property, like dishwashers, washing machines, and water heaters, since their efficiency, age, and any issues with them can cause a high water bill. A leaking toilet tank can see the waste of around 80,000 gallons of water every year, which is why it can be worth inspecting when you’ve noticed a strangely high water bill.

·Turn off water and power: If a pipe bursts inside a building, turn off both your water and power since the combination can be a health and safety risk. · Contact a trusted plumbing service provider: Phone a plumber in your area as soon as you suspect a burst pipe since they will take care of repairs and replacements on your behalf for peace of mind. · Clean up excess water: When the immediate chaos of your burst pipe has passed, reach for a bucket, mop, and towels to start your cleanup efforts — unless sewage is present. · Document any damage: Burst pipes can certainly cause a great deal of damage, so create a list of your losses and take plenty of photos and videos for insurance purposes.

A malfunctioning chain or flapper can cause a toilet to keep running after you’ve flushed it, with toilet flappers becoming brittle with age and the chain connected to it being caught on something. When floats become waterlogged, they can sit at a lower level than your toilet needs and leave the float valve open, so inspect your toilet float and replace it if necessary. Fill valves in a toilet are responsible for shutting off the water supply to your toilet, but when they fail, they can stop performing this critical task. Phone a plumber in your area for assistance with your toilet if you’re unsure why it won’t stop running after it has been flushed.

Look for a water supply valve inside your home, which means you can quickly and easily turn off the water supply to your house with a simple clockwise turn. In some cases, you can turn off the water supply to your property by accessing the water valve within an underground water meter box with a security bolt you have to undo with a pentagon socket wrench. Depending on the design of your water meter box, you may need pliers or a meter key to easily access your water shutoff valve within it. Most trusted plumbers are happy to help their customers locate their home water supply valves when they’ve been unable to find them themselves.
