Did I read that right? You did! We know that most people don't want to “love on a septic tank”, but taking care of your septic system is vital!. We know the stuff we flush down the toilet has to go somewhere (and it does). If you are not in the city limits and don’t pay a sewer bill then most likely you have a septic tank and distribution system.
When waste goes down the drain and out of the house it goes to a tank buried in the ground. From there it has to go out to the distribution system or, well your tank would get full and it would back up into the plumbing fixtures. This has happened to me you say. Well you're not alone and that is why it is important to get the tank pumped regularly.
Maintenance Suggestions
It is recommended that you pump your tank every 3-5 years depending on the size of the tank. If you have never had it pumped it is a good idea to check it and get started on a regular maintenance schedule.
If your distribution system after the tank is working properly it allows the liquid to drain out of the tank but the solids stay in the tank and that is what needs pumped out. Nature does take its course and some of the solids break down but not paper.
It is a good idea to help the process and use a good quality live bacteria in the system. You can add that to your system by simply putting a measured amount down the drain monthly.
Avoid Costly Repairs
If you take care of your septic system you can avoid costly repairs. Out of sight out of mind. We just don’t think about this stuff until it is too late. Set a reminder on that fancy smart phone and start loving on your septic system.
