When we repipe a customer’s home, we recommend two pipes - copper and PEX (cross-linked polyethylene). Both pipes have their pros and cons. Furthermore, our recommendation will be dependent on your needs and water quality.
Below are a few things to consider when choosing between copper and PEX.
PEX - Pros & Cons
- Pro: More cost-effective to install.
- Pro: Flexible and easy to install in tight spaces.
- Pro: Resistant to corrosion.
- Con: Doesn’t last as long as copper.
- Con: Flow restriction rate (dependent on fittings).
- Con: Isn’t ideal for usage outside.
Copper - Pros & Cons
- Pro: Can last longer than PEX pipes (under ideal conditions).
- Pro: More environmentally friendly.
- Con: More expensive to install (material and labor).
- Con: Subject to corrosion from hard water.
- Con: Prone to freeze.
The decision between PEX and copper depends on your specific requirements, budget, and long-term goals. Either way, we'll back your repiping service with a reliable warranty.
