5 Signs Your Home Needs a Water Filtration System

You wouldn't drink water that’s discolored or filled with bacteria, right? So why would you shower, wash your clothes, or clean your dishes with it?

A home filtration system gets grime, chlorine, heavy metals, and harmful minerals out of your home’s water, even when that debris is too small to see with the naked eye. If you’ve noticed any of the following, your home could benefit from a filtration system.

1. Your water isn’t clear.

The most obvious way to tell your water isn’t healthy is by its coloring — it shouldn’t have any. Pour a glass of water in a clear glass and hold it up to the light. Does it appear yellow, brown, or red? If it does, this is a sure sign that dirt and bacteria have made their way into your plumbing.

2. Your water smells.

Pure water shouldn’t have a smell to it. If your water smells like chlorine, rotten eggs (sulfur), or iron, it’s contaminated.

3. Your dishes have white spots.

Silverware and glasses should come out of the dishwasher sparkling clean, not covered in white spots. Though it’s possible these spots are caused by too much soap, there’s a chance they’re also due to excessive amounts of calcium in your water. If you’re using the recommended amount of soap, it may be time to call a professional.

4. Your clean laundry is stained and tough.

Just like your dishes, laundry should also come out of the washing machine clean and spot-free. If your water contains higher-than-average levels of iron or chlorine, your towels and colored shirts may be littered with white spots.

5. You always have plumbing problems.

A leak here and a clogged pipe there is one thing, but if you’re constantly dealing with problems, the issue may lie in your water. Water high in minerals, metals, and debris can quickly form blockages and damage your pipes.
