Preparing Your Home For Holiday Guests

There are plenty of things that come to mind when we think about the winter — Christmas, snow, and overnight guests.

With the holiday season in full swing, friends and family will soon be coming over, that means your plumbing will be put to work. This winter, protect your kitchen and bathroom plumbing by taking a few precautions now.

Get Your Plumbing Ready for Holiday Guests

Take care of your garbage disposal.

Guests who don’t have a garbage disposal are quick to assume that anything can go down it. Unfortunately, that’s not the case. Make sure that guests never use the garbage disposal for bones, stringy vegetables, fruit peels, and coffee grounds.

Wait 10 - 15 minutes between showers.

If you’re having guests stay for the weekend, create a shower schedule to make sure you don’t overwork your system. If you notice that you’re running out of hot water very quickly, it may be time to have your water heater inspected.

Only use the dishwasher when it’s full.

There’s no better feeling than realizing all of your dinner plates can go into the dishwasher and will come out sparkling clean in just a few minutes. But before you run the dishwasher, make sure it’s completely full — this will prevent you from wasting water.

Schedule an inspection today.

No one wants to wake up Christmas morning to find their toilet overflowing or their garbage disposal not working. Before guests come over, make sure that your plumbing is up for the job.
