Is Your Toilet Silently Leaking Water?

While leaky faucets are noticeable, that's not always the case with toilet leaks. But we have an easy task to add to your spring cleaning to-do-list. It will show you if your toilet is silently leaking water (and costing you money!).

All you need is dark food coloring and an old towel. It’s as easy as 1, 2, 3!

  • First, put an old towel around the base of the toilet in case of a leak. The dye can stain flooring.
  • Then put several drops of dark food coloring into the toilet tank.
  • Wait to see if dye appears in the bowl. If it does, you have a leak.

The problem could be one of two things: either replace the flapper at the bottom of the tank or adjust/replace the fill valve. Home repair stores carry these parts.

If you aren't a do-it-yourselfer, we’re just a phone call away.
