Every holiday season people spend more than $400 on gifts for their friends and family. But, what if some of that money could be treated as an investment to benefit the environment and monthly utility bills?
This time of year, there are sales and discounts all over town. It seems that every store is advertising their sales prices as better than any other store. And, everything is on sale from toys and games to household appliances and accessories.
Now is the time of year to be shopping for some items that are not necessarily gifts – but, investments. That is to say, items that will have a positive impact on your household and how much your monthly utility bills are.
Here are some examples of what we’re talking about:
- Low-flow fixtures. It’s not just toys and electronics that are on deep discount sale this time of year. Home improvement stores across the Country are announcing deals on various items, including plumbing fixtures. Installing low-flow fixtures throughout your home is not going to get any cheaper that it is this time of year. These plumbing accessories have been on the market for many years so there are styles and prices to fit everyone’s needs. Take a look at low-flow appliances too and really make an impact on your water usage.
- Water filtration systems. Whether it is a whole-house system or just a filter at the tap, water filtration system help to reduce the amount of waste that your home generates by eliminating the need for bottled water. This means that rather than cracking a bottle of water every time you want a cup of tea, you can just fill your mug at the tap with clean and fresh filtered water and save the waste of a plastic bottle. This also means spending less money per month on bottled water. A 24-pack of bottled water can run anywhere from $3 for generic to $7 for higher-end brands.
- Water filtering pitchers. If you like to have ice cold water to drink throughout the day, consider buying a water filtering pitcher. This is a good tool in addition to a water filtration system as it keeps fresh filtered water nice and cold inside of the refrigerator, and you can fill your cup from there.
While you are out doing your gift shopping this season, make sure to keep your eyes peeled for items that will benefit your plumbing system and your monthly budget. Now is the perfect time of year to get a great deal on items that you might not have thought about otherwise.
