  • Tip #1. Make sure your bypass setting is turned off (with bypass “on”, your water will bypass the water softener).

  • Tip #3. Make sure your brine tank is filled with salt.

Water Softener Is Not Regenerating

  • Tip #2. Check the control head to make sure settings haven’t been adjusted.

Breaking Up Salt Bridges

A salt bridge is a hardened layer of salt that forms above the water level in the brine tank. This creates a gap between the water and the remaining salt below. This bridge prevents the water from properly dissolving the salt, which hinders the regeneration process of the water softener.

To fix this, simply break the salt bridge with a broom handle or wooden spoon. Then, level the remaining salt.
