Frequent Septic System Issues

Detached Dividing Wall: A detached septic tank dividing wall is a common problem in which the two compartments of the tank move from their position or aren’t secure, sometimes causing tank failure. Full/Overflowing Tank: When a septic tank overflows, it can disrupt your drain field, resulting in sewage pooling on the surface instead of being properly absorbed. Plant Roots: If large plants or trees grow near your septic system, their roots can create major issues by encroaching on the tank and causing damage. Tank Corrosion: Bacterial activity creating hydrogen sulfide gas can sometimes lead to that gas being trapped and causing septic tank walls to corrode and fail over time.

Customer Reviews in Ravensdale, Washington

  • I’ll start with this: Yes, I would totally recommend Mr Rooter. Broken sewer pipes are never good news, and unexpected & sudden discovery is not likable. It started with an overflowing mess in our basement and ended up with a large, new section of pipe, deep in our front yard. To the rescue was Mr Rooter. After an emergency clearing of our drain pipes (fast response!), they found a “blockage” using camera probe). Turned out the pipe was broken, buried 7 feet deep. They dug down, found another break and another. Four in total. Huge tree roots had crushed the pipe. This was not an easy nor inexpensive venture. On the upside, Vinnie – our Mr Rooter project manager – was awesome. This kind of problem causes quite a disruption in our life, with the water/drainage unusable as the fix was happening, but the communication and clear explanation from a very experienced and understanding Vinnie, things went as well as could be hoped for. He and his crew were efficient, hard-working, friendly, and respectful of our needs and property – and wallet. Vinnie was refreshingly honest and candid about our options as the ordeal unfolded. Everything was handled professionally and the site was secured and blocked off, with all permits in place (and no complaints from the neighbors), and a tidy jobsite. While costs for this kind of work is not inexpensive, I think we got a fair value. Big thanks to Vinnie – and crew! We’ll use them for maintenance in the future.

Frequently Asked Questions About Septic System Repair in Ravensdale, Washington

Whether you’re curious about septic system services or require repairs, you may find the answers to your questions below. Contact the friendly team at Mr. Rooter Plumbing® in Ravensdale, Washington for more information about taking care of your septic system.

  • How much you can expect to pay to replace a septic tank can be determined by many factors, including who you choose to help, your property type, and your location. The type of pump you choose, such as a turbine pump or a centrifugal pump, can contribute to the overall cost of a septic tank installation. All septic systems have different price tags, with conventional septic systems generally costing less to buy and install than drip distribution septic systems, waterless, aerobic, mound, waterless, and chamber septic systems. If you’re installing a large septic tank, you can pay more compared to if you were installing a small one.

  • A number of factors go into the cost planning process for septic tank repairs, but the price range for leading septic tank repair companies is around $650 to $6,500. The more severe your septic tank issues are, the more you can expect your septic tank repair bill to be, like thousands of dollars for a collapsed drain field or a large crack, and hundreds for a septic tank blockage or baffle failure. As larger septic tanks can require more materials and time to repair, you may expect to pay more to fix a larger tank than a smaller one. The more deeply buried and hard-to-access your septic tank is, the more your local septic tank service provider may charge based on the time it can take to access and repair it.

  • The more well-maintained your septic tank is, the longer it may last before you need to begin exploring your septic tank replacement options with trusted experts. Generally, most well-maintained septic tanks and systems will last between 15 and 40 years, with four decades being common with well-installed and fastidiously maintained models. In most situations, your septic tank’s lifespan is reflective of its construction materials, with steel tanks lasting up to around two decades compared to concrete tanks at around twice that lifespan. Usage and load, system design and installation, your pumping routine, and even the soil and site conditions =all contribute to the lifespan of a septic tank.

  • Look for surface clues in your yard to help locate your septic tank, such as signs of disturbance, unusual vegetation growth, lush grass growth, and depressions in the ground. If you’ve recently purchased your property and need to find your septic tank, check your inspection records and any information left by the former owner to see if its location has been noted. Access your property’s building plans, if possible, to potentially find the location of your septic tank quickly. With specialized equipment and industry knowledge, trusted and reliable septic tank service providers in your area will be able to help you find your septic tank.

  • Collapsed septic tanks can pose health and safety risks due to the raw sewage, so ask for service from septic tank professionals as soon as possible. Collapsed septic tanks aren’t able to take care of your wastewater properly, so stop using it immediately and seek help when you learn it has collapsed. Collapsed septic tanks can lead to property damage if you continue to use them, such as wastewater backing up due to detached pipes as well as sinkholes. Collapsed septic tanks can present many health and safety challenges, which is why there might be legal repercussions if you were to use them once you’re aware they’ve collapsed.

  • Remembering to book septic tank pumping through professional service providers you trust can be an effective way to help your septic system function at its best for many years. Be mindful of what you flush down your toilet and drains since not all products are septic system-safe and can cause significant damage over time. An important part of septic tank maintenance is drain field maintenance, which can involve not planting trees near it, not parking or driving over it, and keeping sump pumps and rainwater drainage systems away from it. Commercial and residential septic tank users can contribute to their septic tank’s good health by avoiding pouring harsh chemicals down their drains, prioritizing efficient water use, and using septic system-safe toilet paper.

  • Rather than repairing your septic tank yourself, outsource this task to a trusted septic tank repair service provider with licensing, insurance, and years of experience for peace of mind. If you need to repair or replace a baffle, this can involve inspecting the baffle and surrounding components before ordering and replacing damaged parts. Even small septic tank repairs are messy and time-consuming. That’s why Llicensed and insured septic tank repair professionals are often the best people to call to repair a septic tank rather than performing this job yourself. When you aren’t sure whether any repairs you do yourself will be successful, take note of how your septic tank performs before and after to learn whether you’ve solved the problem.

  • Homeowners’ insurance may cover septic tank repairs if a fire, lightning, windstorm, or hail resulted in the damage, which are events outside of your control. If your septic tank has suffered damage from an explosion event, talk to your insurance provider, as the costs of repairing or replacing it may be covered. If your septic tank has been the victim of vandalism or a natural disaster, you may be able to have it repaired through your homeowners’ insurance provider. Septic tank repairs aren’t always covered if they are damaged due to poor maintenance that a homeowner could have prevented or general wear and tear.

  • Clogs and blockages are not only some of the most frustrating septic tank-related problems, but they are also be among the most common problems that you call a septic tank service provider to fix. Many homeowners and businesses encounter cracks and leaks in their septic tanks, often due to age, pressure, and ground movement. High usage, poor maintenance, and infrequently emptied tanks can often result in common septic tank issues like drain backups and sewage overflows, which can be highly disruptive to property owners. You may experience problems or complete failure of your septic tank related to poor installation practices with the septic tank and drain field, tree root damage to pipes and septic tank walls, and even old age.

  • While not guaranteed, you may be able to fix a cracked septic tank using epoxy sealant products designed for septic tanks if the cracks are minor. In some situations, patching compounds and adhesive products within septic tank repair kits can be helpful for taking care of light or minor septic tank cracks. While structural cracks are not always repairable, some septic tank service providers may be able to remedy large cracks by reinforcing the cracked area with extra materials. Not all septic tank cracks will be economical or practical to repair, so septic tank repair professionals may recommend replacing your septic tank instead of repairing it.
