  • Both of our emergencies happened on a Sunday (of course *lol*), the first time I reached out to three plumbers (one being my regular), Only Mr. Rooter got back to me, fixed the problem. Professional, quick and reliable. The second time, no hesitation, called Mr. Rooter first…..same service. They are now my go to for everything! Great job!

  • I’m sorry I meant to do this right away but life got in the way. Recently a water heater died. It died unexpectedly and before it’s time and in a way neither I nor the technician had ever seen before. The early failure was due at least partially to an improper installation by the previous plumber. The water heater itself was still in the limited warranty phase and i had all my original receipts and paperwork so Home Depot gave me credit for the full value of the heater towards a new one. I was stuck with the installation charges but the credit covered most of the cost of the new water heater so I got about half off of the entire project. The important thing to remember is that the old water heater had to be lugged back to Home Depot once taken out and all the paperwork for the new one and the return done before the new one could get brought to my home and installed. Your technician, Steven Holder, came out and once shown how the water heater had failed explained what likely happened and why and suggested several things that would help prevent such a failure again. He removed the old water heater and lugged it out to his van and up to Home Depot and waited while I conducted the business of the return and then went with me to pick out the new water heater and loaded it right up onto his dolly and waited again while I checked out all without complaint. We went back to my house where Steven installed the new water heater for me. When I went down to look at the finished job I was blown away. He had installed the heat shields on the inlet pipes of the water heater that had been missing on the previous install, he went to the trouble of using brass fittings on the pipe ends to prevent the corrosion that occurred before and he removed the rat’s nest of couplings and elbows and I think at least one SharkBite connector that been feeding into and out of the water heater previously with a solder free copper set of pipes that aside from looking better should give me far less problems in the future. I was sincerely amazed at the awesome job he did and will ask for that technician by name in the future. Pleas give Steven Holder a raise because whatever you’re paying him is not enough for how well he takes care of your customers. Sincerely, Patrick Laflamme

Frequently Asked Questions About Water Heater Repair & Replacement in Greater Springfield, Massachusetts

If you want to be well-informed about water heater and hot water dispenser services, read the answers to our frequently asked questions below. Contact the team at Mr. Rooter Plumbing® in Greater Springfield, Massachusetts for more information about our services.

  • A service professional with experience in water heater repairs should be the first person you call when you’re having problems with your water heater. A licensed and insured water heater service professionals offers the peace of mind you need to know your water heater will be repaired to a high standard. Don’t be afraid to ask family and friends for recommendations or read online reviews before choosing a water heater repair specialist. Hire a water heater service provider offering guaranteed parts and workmanship so you can be confident in the standard of water heater repairs.

  • If you’ve noticed that your water heater isn’t producing hot water, check that there’s power running to it, inspect the thermostat, and look at the heating elements if you feel confident doing so. Call a trusted water heater repair specialist if your water heater is leaking due to corrosion, a loose connection, or a broken pressure relief valve. If your water heater is making an odd noise, it might have sediment buildup at the bottom that needs to be flushed to solve the problem. When you know your water heater isn’t working as it should, call a trusted water heater repair business in your area to diagnose and repair it.

  • When a water heater is eight to 12 years old or even older than that as per the manufacturer’s label, it doesn’t always make economic sense to repair it. When a new water heater costs only 50% more than repairing your old one in a year, replacement rather than more repairs can make financial sense. If you’ve had to repair your water heater several times in a short period, it is often more cost-effective to consider replacing it altogether. Depending on its current efficiency and performance, water heater replacement may be the more suitable option.

  • If your water heater is leaking from the tank, corrosion or damage might be to blame, which requires replacement by a plumbing professional rather than repairs. If your water heater is leaking from its fittings or pipes, perform repairs by checking inlet and outlet pipe connections for leaks or contacting a service professional to do it for you. A licensed and insured service professional will be able to fix your leaking water heater if the leak originates from a failed pressure relief valve. When you notice water leaking from the bottom of your water heater, inspect your drain valve to ensure the leak isn’t due to it being open or loose – you can contact a water heater repair expert to help with this.

  • Many factors can contribute to the average cost of water heater repairs, which is around $600 nationally, such as whether your water heater is new and in good condition or old and in poor condition. Whether you have a gas, electric, tank, or tankless water heater may contribute to how much you can expect to pay for water heater repairs. The costs associated with repairing a water heater can typically depend on the problem, like a faulty thermostat, a leak, sediment buildup, or a broken heating element. As labor costs can vary from one town or city to the next, your location contributes to the labor cost component of what you’ll pay for water heater repairs.

  • The costs associated with replacing a hot water heater in your home or business depends on the model you buy, such as gas, electric, tank, or tankless. Generally, water heaters with smaller tanks or lower flow rates tend to be more affordable to buy and install than models with larger tanks or higher flow rates. A range of factors can contribute to the costs associated with replacing a water heater, such as your chosen service professional, the complexity of the installation, and whether your location requires permits. To get an accurate replacement cost estimate based on the type and model of water heater you want, request an estimate from a local service professional.

  • Water heater replacement is a good idea when you’ve noticed that your current water heater is no longer efficient or economical to run. Spending a fortune on repairs is one of the many signs that indicate it’s time to replace your old water heater with a more cost-effective option. If your water heater is leaking from what appears to be a rusted or corroded tank, you need to replace it sooner rather than later. If you need more capacity, want improved energy efficiency, or simply need a system that better suits your lifestyle, consider water heater replacement before long.

  • The type of water heater you choose to install contributes to how long the replacement process takes. Most trusted water heater installation service professionals will provide a three to five-hour estimate, based on your existing system. Water heater installation can be impacted by your plumbing connections and whether your local plumber needs to fix or replace them or install new ones. If your plumbing service provider has to install a new gas line or make modifications to get your water heater to fit, such modifications typically require extra time on top of the three- to five-hour average.

  • Most water heater types have an’average’ lifespan, so find out what yours is so you know how long you can expect yours to last and when you should replace it. Most conventional tank water heaters last eight to 12 years before you need to replace them, with some high-efficiency models lasting closer to 10 to 15 years. A well-installed and well-maintained tankless water heater may last 15 to 20 years before you need to consider a replacement. You should expect eight to 12 years of use from a water heater, but a number of factors can contribute to the need for a replacement, such as its efficiency, how many repairs you’ve had to perform, and its overall quality and condition.

  • While not true in all situations, home purchasers can be particularly drawn to properties with a new and well-maintained water heater and other upgrades that justify a higher asking price. While a new water heater may not improve the value of your home, a replacement can show prospective home buyers that your property is well-maintained. Alongside a new water heater, new appliances and kitchen and bathroom remodels are some of the plumbing upgrades that can potentially increase the return on your investment. A new water heater and other plumbing upgrades can certainly be desirable to prospective home buyers, but overall market conditions in your region will also be significant factors when determining your property’s value.
