Faucet with low water pressure

Why Is My Water Pressure So Low?

Whether you’re getting ready to take a shower, washing dishes, or trying to water the lawn, any time you experience low water pressure, it can incite stress and concern. This makes some everyday tasks more difficult than they need to be. As a homeowner, you should be able to have the proper water pressure you need and want. Here are some things to look for to determine the cause of your low water pressure.

  • Leaks in the pipes: If there are leaks in the pipes, it can prevent the proper amount of water from reaching the fixture. This means less is distributed into the home. As a result, the water pressure is less than optimal and the homeowner is left figuring out how to fix it.
  • Mineral and debris buildup: When dirt and minerals build up in the pipes, it can slow the water flow. As it does this, the fixtures in the home are often affected. This will result in low water pressure when someone showers or turns on the sink.
  • Pipe corrosion: Certain materials can begin to corrode inside over the years, including steel or galvanized pipes. This can block the water flow. Simple fixes may not be possible at this point, and replacement of the pipes may be necessary.
  • Bad pressure regulator: If there is a bad pressure regulator in the home, it can cause the water pressure to be either too low or too high. This may need repairs or even a complete replacement.
