It’s easy to assume that making your plumbing system eco-friendly can be time-consuming and costly. However, it actually doesn’t take that much time or money to make your plumbing environmentally friendly. In fact, you will most likely save money after converting your plumbing into an eco-friendly system! Here are the ways we recommend making your plumbing system “green”:
Water Efficient Toilets
The standard toilet flushes 1.6 gallons of water per flush. Recent improvements have allowed toilets to use 1.28 gallons, which is 20% less than the standard toilet, or less when flushing. These toilets use less water and still have the same performance as a toilet that flushes more water. Toilets that meet the federal government’s standards for reduction of water use will be labeled with a WaterSense sticker. We recommend adding toilets with a WaterSense sticker on them to reduce water usage in your home. You will save money on your water bill and reduce your use of water!
Low Flow Shower Heads
Did you know about two and a half gallons flow through the average shower head every minute? That’s over 20 gallons of water used for a 10 minute shower! We suggest investing in a low-flow shower head. Low flow shower heads provide the same performance as a regular shower head, but with a smaller amount of water flowing through!
Tankless Water Heaters
While tankless water heaters cost more money than other water heaters up front, you will definitely notice a change in your energy bill once you switch from a traditional water heater to a tankless water heater. Traditional water heaters produce hot water that is stored in a tank. This is a waste of energy because the hot water in the tank will drop in temperature when it is not in use. Tankless water heaters produce hot water on demand. That means that every bit of energy that is used to heat the water will be used efficiently.
