Summer Check-Ups for Your Plumbing

Before you call a plumber for your summer check-up, there are some things you can do to get prepared. Do your own inspection before you have the plumber come to your home so that you have a list of things that you’d like checked. Make a list of questions if you have them as well.

Inspect the Pipes

Walk your Sacramento, CA home and make sure that all the pipes in your home are in good condition. If you have leaks or your pipes are discolored add these issues to your list. If you have a drip that you can’t control, have your plumber come right away so that you can avoid damage.

Sprinkler Systems

Watch the flow of water from your sprinkler system. Also, make sure all your sprinkler heads are in good condition and aren’t leaking. If you think your sprinkler system leaks and can’t find the leak, add this to a list to give your plumber during an inspection. Also, check the faucets you have on the outside of your home for dripping or leaks.

Water Pressure

Check the water pressure in your home by turning on many faucets at once. If your water pressure goes down a lot. This may be a sign of a leak.

Check Your Kitchen and Bathrooms

Inspect your faucets and showerheads closely. Look for buildup, corrosion, and listen to your pipes. Don’t forget to look at the pipes behind your toilet and under your sinks to make sure everything looks sealed and is stable. It is important to use your nose in the kitchen and bathroom as well. Smell your drains to make sure you don’t smell sewage and smell your walls and under your cabinets for mold and mildew. You may not see these things, but you can sometimes smell them first.

Appliances

Check the connections to your appliances. Your dishwasher, clothes washing machine, refrigerator water line, and water heaters all have connections you should check and alert your plumber if you see anything that isn’t working properly.
