Women in Franchising
In Franchise Update, published by Franchising Magazine, Mary Thompson, president of Mr. Rooter ® Plumbing, and Dina Dwyer-Owens, chairwoman of The Dwyer Group ®, were featured as two of franchising's top 24 female leaders. The edition, found online today, features in-depth interviews with each of the notable, female leaders, giving readers an opportunity to discover the background and foundation of these women. Thompson has been with the company for over seven years, serving as the president for her entire career with Mr. Rooter Plumbing. She has set high goals for herself and the company, shooting for double-digit same store sales growth each year through 2018. Her leadership style allows for this type of growth, however, as she relies on the rest of her team to help propel the organization towards greater success. "I'm a collaborative leader who believes the best decisions made come from listening to the field experts," Thompson said. "Many minds working together can find amazing solutions." The fearless leader doesn't take all of the credit for the success of Mr. Rooter Plumbing, let alone her own. "I've been blessed to have mentors throughout my personal and professional life...It has helped me continuously improve, not allow myself to get too comfortable, and sharpened me to drive better results." Dwyer-Owens cites similar mentorship and support as part of her success, as well. "I am surrounded by great leaders who I share best practices in business and in life. I am eternally thankful for those friendships...I am a constant learner. I watch what success, giving people do. Then I work hard to follow their lead." Both Thompson's and Dwyer-Owens' interviews can be found online (pages 39 and 22 respectively).
