Main Sewer Line Back Ups

Wastewater back up in your home is a sign of a clog in the main sewer line. If a main sewer line becomes clogged, it must be fixed immediately. Clogged pipes and wastewater backup put you and your family’s health and safety at risk due to the bacteria that your home’s wastewater contains.

As soon as you notice water pooling in your home, shut off the main water line to your home to avoid more disaster. This may temporarily make daily operations difficult. But the quicker you get the problem diagnosed and fixed the quicker you can go on with your busy life.

Locating the Water Main

There is no standard location for the main water shut-off valve in residential homes. To locate your valve you need to find your water meter because the main shut off valve should be located close to it.  In cold climates, the water line usually enters from a hole in the foundation. Follow the pipe until you find the water meter. Once you have located that, search for the shut off valve.

In warmer climates the water meter may be located outside. Often you will find the meter near an outside faucet. If your home’s shut off valve doesn’t seem to help, you also have the option to turn the water off at the street meter. This will be near the street in your yard. You will need a crescent wrench and screwdriver.  Use the screwdriver to lift the ground cover, then use the crescent wrench to turn off the main water supply valve.

Your Options

Before you start any plumbing repair project in your home try to locate the source of the problem. Removing hair out of a drain is one job most people can do but removing tree roots in your sewer line is a whole different situation. If there is water coming up from a manhole near your home, the city may be liable for repairs. However, each situation and city is different, and you should contact your city officials to verify.

If you have standing water do not attempt to use liquid drain cleaners. They are extremely corrosive and may cause injury or more damage. To avoid unwanted expensive or harmful events, a main sewer line block will require the help of a professional. Mr. Rooter Plumbing offers reasonably priced plumbing services and will walk you through their processes every step of the way – so you’ll know what to expect.

Hiring a Specialist

The professionals at Mr. Rooter Plumbing bring the best to every job. And we won’t charge you an arm and a leg for it, our prices are reasonable.

Your service technician will insert a camera into the pipes to get a look at what caused the clog. Sometimes the whole pipe is broken or crushed, other times we will find unexpected foreign objects like little toy cars, dentures, and pacifiers. Thirsty tree roots looking for water tend to cause blockages too.

If there is an accessible clean-out pipe, your service technician might first try to use a cable, also called a snake, to locate the clog. At times, this is all that is required. The cable breaks through the clog and water starts moving again. But that is not all we do.

If you are dealing with tree roots the entire pipe may need to be replaced. Sometimes roots can be cleared out temporarily with hydroscrubbing which saves money, but this is not always the most viable option for the long term.

Hydroscrubbing

Hydroscrubbing is a gentle and efficient alternative to snaking a drain clear of clogs. The HydroScrub® is a high-pressure hose attached to a large water tank. This machine is placed at the clean out and pressurizes and controls the flow of water. The nozzle creates pressure in the drain to pull itself through the pipe.

The HydroScrub® clears the line of many common problems. It effectively cleans grease, oil, hair, mineral build up, and some tree roots. However, if the problem is tree roots, the HydroScrub® will only work to bring the flow of water until the roots grow back. If your technician finds that the pipes in your yard must be replaced, you might think of the typical chaos that ensues. Like an excavator digging up your entire lawn, taking out the rose bushes, and leaving you with a giant mud puddle until the grass grows back.

We’ve got good news, your bushes are safe. Because Mr. Rooter Plumbing provides a trenchless sewer line repair service, so we will not have to dig up your lawn.

Trenchless Sewer Line Repair

There are three different types of repairs that we can accomplish with our trenchless sewer line replacement system. We can replace an old pipe with a completely new one with little to no digging in your yard. Mr. Rooter Plumbing uses a flexible epoxy material liner and inflates it to the diameter of the pipe. Air pressure is followed to maintain the cast’s shape. Once it cures, you are left with a brand-new pipe.

For older pipes still intact, a coating can be applied to your pipe system to rehabilitate its condition. This is our latest technology and conditions must be right to use this option. Your service technician will be able to advise you on what options will work best for your current problems and offer preventive maintenance.
