It’s not a pleasant subject of course, but it is an even more unpleasant plumbing malfunction. Before your friends and family begin to arrive for a happy and fun visit, make sure that nothing is going to interfere – especially a clogged toilet.
Here are some tips you can follow to get your toilet in top working condition:
- Check the bottom of your toilet base, where it connects to your flooring. Around the edge is a layer of sealant that protects the flooring from any water damage. This can occur when condensation collects around the toilet, and then drips into the floor.
- Check to make sure all of the in-tank components of your toilet are working properly. Gently lift the lid of your toilet and look inside at the flapper, handle, and chain. Make sure that all of the pieces are working correctly and nothing needs to be replaced. Sometimes the chain is too long and can gather in the way of the flapper, which prevents the toilet tank from re-filling. Flush the toilet while you have the lid off and make sure everything works properly.
- Never use in-tank cleaning disks to keep your toilet clean. Instead, put something in the bowl to clean it. The in-tank disks can be highly corrosive because they sit there and accumulate in the water. The components of your toilet are then at risk to breaking down from the chemicals that they are constantly being bathed in. It is better to use an in-bowl cleaning solution instead.
