If there’s one thing you need to have working properly in your home – it’s the toilet. Every person in your home uses the toilet, and if it is not working correctly you will definitely hear about it.
An overflowing toilet is probably one of the most stressful situations that can happen on a normal day. The mess that it makes is one that most people don’t want to have anything to do with cleaning up. Not to mention the damage that the toilet water can do to your bathroom.
If the water is able to get between the flooring and the subfloor of your home, it can encourage the growth of mold and mildew. These fungi will soften the wood of the subfloor, making it more susceptible to pest infestation. Not to mention the mold spores in the air can be damaging to the respiratory system of you and your family members.
Here are just a few reasons that your toilet will clog:
- If your toilet is low-flow or if you live in an older home and the plumbing system has not been upgraded, the toilet might now have the water pressure that it needs to efficiently push all of the materials down the drain. Look at the timestamp on the tank of your toilet; if it is dated anywhere from 1994 to 1997 then, you have a weaker model toilet.
- Lift the toilet seats on your toilet and look up under the rim of the bowl. If you see discolor or buildup on the ports where the water flows out during a flush, this could be the result of hard water deposits. Take a scrub brush and scrape the buildup off. The hard water deposits are clogging the port holes and not allowing enough water out.
- If the drain line of your toilet is corroded or has buildup inside the walls, it could be limiting the amount of water and material that allowed to move through. This requires a plumber to come in and inspect the line to see if there is anything clogging it or causing an interruption in the flow.
If you notice that your toilet is always getting clogged, this is probably a sign of something bigger than just a lot of toilet paper. Make sure to tune into what could be causing this and check some of these solutions.
