At Mr. Rooter Plumbing, we use professional-grade equipment to examine the pipelines and identify any leaks that may be causing damage to your property. During professional leak detection, our technicians employ high-definition cameras and infrared technology to diagnose and locate underground leaks. These technologies combined allow trained plumbers to identify areas of disrepair in the pipeline without having to rip open drywall or dig through the landscaping at your property.
In the past, plumbers were forced to damage infrastructure and topography to locate leaks and damage to pipelines. This often resulted in excessive property damage, as they searched for the exact location of disrepair and dug up irrelevant areas. Today, the preferred methods of pipe inspection and repair are trenchless, meaning they are performed entirely underground or within the existing pipeline.
Mr. Rooter Plumbing performs professional leak detection by inserting a high-definition camera with infrared light and a transmitter attached to it into the pipeline. The transmitter sends a signal up to the technician above ground, while the camera simultaneously sends a feed of live and recorded images. The images provide a detailed look inside of the pipeline with enough information for the technician to be able to diagnose breaks and cracks, while the transmitter emits a signal that can pinpoint where exactly in the pipeline the leak is.
The entire process is conducted inside the pipeline via an existing access point called a cleanout. Utilizing the existing access point is how technicians are able to perform trenchless inspections, as opposed to traditional methods of investigation into pipe function and health. The camera and transmitter can be driven on a tractor through the pipeline up to approximately 300 feet or attached to a rod and manually moved throughout the pipeline. Fast and easy, this method of leak detection is an effective way of diagnosing existing disrepair and a form of preventative maintenance that can expose pending issues before they become disasters and extend the overall life of the pipeline. When the severity and location of the leak are established, the next step is deciding which type of pipe repair method is appropriate for the situation. Mr. Rooter Plumbing technicians are knowledgeable about various pipe repair methods and will have the tools on hand to perform leak repair to your preference.
