I’ll start with this: Yes, I would totally recommend Mr Rooter. Broken sewer pipes are never good news, and unexpected & sudden discovery is not likable. It started with an overflowing mess in our basement and ended up with a large, new section of pipe, deep in our front yard. To the rescue was Mr Rooter. After an emergency clearing of our drain pipes (fast response!), they found a “blockage” using camera probe). Turned out the pipe was broken, buried 7 feet deep. They dug down, found another break and another. Four in total. Huge tree roots had crushed the pipe. This was not an easy nor inexpensive venture. On the upside, Vinnie – our Mr Rooter project manager – was awesome. This kind of problem causes quite a disruption in our life, with the water/drainage unusable as the fix was happening, but the communication and clear explanation from a very experienced and understanding Vinnie, things went as well as could be hoped for. He and his crew were efficient, hard-working, friendly, and respectful of our needs and property – and wallet. Vinnie was refreshingly honest and candid about our options as the ordeal unfolded. Everything was handled professionally and the site was secured and blocked off, with all permits in place (and no complaints from the neighbors), and a tidy jobsite. While costs for this kind of work is not inexpensive, I think we got a fair value. Big thanks to Vinnie – and crew! We’ll use them for maintenance in the future.

As soon as you notice problems with your water heater, start researching the best water heater repair businesses in your area so you can have it repaired or replaced. When you have high repair standards and want peace of mind, find a trusted water heater repair specialist with licensing and insurance to carry out your repair work. You can gain a great deal of peace of mind that you’ve hired the right person to repair your water heater if you read reviews and ask people you know for recommendations. As you research water heater repair businesses in your area, ask experts if they offer guarantees on parts and workmanship before making your final decision.
-
If your water heater isn’t producing hot water, check the power supply, inspect the heating elements, and check the thermostat. If you have a leaking water heater, contact a water heater repair service provider to diagnose common problems like a failed pressure relief valve or rust. Water heaters making strange noises due to sediment buildup can sometimes be easily repaired by flushing the tank to remove the sediment. Depending on the issue, water heater repair may not be possible, so contact a service professional for maintenance, repairs, and replacement.
-
Check the date on your water heater’s manufacturing label to see if it’s worth repairing since that may not be the case if it’s over eight years old. Whether you’re thinking about repairs or replacement, compare the costs of a new water heater to your expected repair bill since replacement often makes more sense when 12 months of repairs equals half the price of a new water heater. If you’re starting to require multiple repairs to your water heater and don’t see that trend changing, explore water heater replacement. Weigh up the performance and efficiency of your water heater since a new model may end up being the better option for your home or business.
-
If your water heater is leaking from a rusted tank, most reputable water heater repair companies would recommend replacing your water heater rather than repairing it. When water has been leaking out of your water heater’s pipes and fittings, use a pipe wrench to tighten your inlet and outlet pipes and see if that solves the problem. Water leaking from temperature and pressure relief valves can be a sign of failure, so contact your local plumbing professional for help to repair or replace it. Open and loose valves on water heaters can cause leaks, so inspect yours and tighten them if required, or call a water heater repair expert for help.
-
Various factors like age and water heater condition can contribute to how much you pay to repair your water heater, but the national water heater repair costs average around $600. The type of water heater you have can contribute to repair costs through a trusted service professional, such as tank, tankless, electric, and gas water heaters. Water heaters need repairs for different problems, such as sediment buildup, a failed heating elements, a leak, and a broken thermostat, which can reflect how much you pay for a repair service. Service provider costs across different towns and cities contribute to the overall bill you receive for water heater repairs.
-
The cost to replace a water heater varies based on the type of water heater you want to install, such as a gas, electric, tank, or tankless model. If you buy a water heater with a larger tank or a higher flow rate, expect to pay more for the purchase and installation of these type of units. A number of factors can play a part in how much you can pay for water heater replacement, like how hard it will be to install, any necessary permits, and your preferred service provider. Ask your local water heater service professional for a job estimate to understand how much it will cost to buy and install a new water heater in your area.
-
The best time to replace your water heater is if your current unit is over 10 years old, not economical to run or repair, and not efficient or suitable for your needs. When water heater repair costs have added up to roughly 50% of the price of a new water heater in the last 12 months, it’s worth considering a replacement. Rust on your water heater should be closely monitored as it can sometimes lead to leaks and the need to buy a new water heater. If your current water heater is not meeting the demands of your home or business, or you want to benefit from the advanced features and technology of new water heaters, consider a water heater replacement.
-
How long plumbing service providers are at your home or business installing your new water heater can depend on the water heater you’ve purchased. Straightforward water heater installations take three to five hours, but that’s not guaranteed in all situations. Before providing an estimated water heater replacement timeframe, your chosen service professional will likely consider your existing plumbing connections and whether they need to be repaired or replaced before your new water heater is installed. Most professional plumbers will tell you that a water heater installation will take longer than the average of three to five hours if they need to install a new gas line or make modifications to ensure your water heater fits properly.
-
As a general rule, the average life expectancy is when you should start shopping for a new water heater. Most homeowners get around eight to 12 years of service from their conventional tank water heater — with some enjoying up to 15 years if they have a high-efficiency model. Water heater replacement may not be on your to-do list for at least 15 or 20 years if you have a well-maintained tankless model that was professionally installed. You may find that your water heater lasts longer than the average eight to 12 years based on factors like how well you’ve maintained it, the frequency of repairs, its overall performance, and the water quality in your area.
-
Many home buyers may pay more for a home that has been modernized with a new, high-efficiency water heater with updated technology and desirable features. Installing a new water heater and maintaining it well can indicate to home buyers that you care about your property’s quality and want to maintain its value. Your return on investment for new water heater installation may be higher if it’s combined with other plumbing upgrades, such as a kitchen and bathroom remodel. In many situations, the overall condition of your home, including your plumbing system, will determine your home’s value.
