Need a plumber in Madras, OR? Mr. Rooter Plumbing of Central Oregon has been making the drive up Highway 97 for more than 20 years, and owner Greg Muensterman has 46 years in the trade. Madras calls are mostly two things: drains and sewers that back up, and water service lines that leak or give out between the meter and the house. We bring a sewer camera on every van, quote the price before the work starts, and have a plumber on call around the clock with no overtime charge.
Residential & Commercial Services
Plumbing services we provide in Madras and Jefferson County
Madras sits where Highways 97 and 26 meet, about 45 minutes north of our shop, and it is the working center of Jefferson County: the county seat, the farm town for the irrigated ground on Agency Plains, and the place people from Culver, Metolius, and the outlying ranches come for everything. It is drier and colder than Bend, with less than ten inches of rain a year and winters that have hit forty below. Inside town the homes are on city water and sewer; outside the city limits are wells and septic tanks, and irrigation water that is not the same as the water in the house. We have worked all of it.
About us. Greg Muensterman started plumbing in Southern California in 1980 and opened Mr. Rooter in Bend in 2006, out of a spare bedroom. Today our licensed plumbers and seasoned drain techs work out of our Peerless Court shop on the north end of Bend. Every van carries a sewer camera, and the larger vans carry a natural gas and an electric water heater so a replacement does not wait for a second trip. We are a local, owner operated shop. The person who calls you back after hours is a qualified technician.
Backups and drain cleaning. The most common Madras call is a backup: every drain in the house slows at once, or the lowest tub or floor drain starts filling. We clear the line with a cable machine or our high pressure trailer jetter and then run the camera so you can see on screen what caused it, whether that is roots, a bellied section, grease, or a collapsed pipe in an older clay line. If the pipe itself has failed, our trenchless sewer line repair options usually mean no trench across the yard. Drain-only details are on our drain cleaning page.
Water service lines. The other half of our Madras work is the water line between the meter and the house. The symptoms are a water bill that jumped, a soft or green spot in the yard in August, the sound of running water when nothing is on, or pressure that dropped for no reason. We locate the leak, and then we give you a straight answer on repair versus replacement. Old galvanized or thin poly service lines usually get replaced in one run of new pipe, in one day, and we restore your landscape as if we were never there. For the plumbing inside the house, see our plumbing repair page.
Wells, septic, and farm places. Out on the Plains and toward Culver and Metolius, most places are on a well and a septic system, and a lot of them have a shop, a barn, or a yard hydrant line that is plumbing too. We handle everything from the pressure tank into the house and out to the septic tank: pressure tanks, pressure-reducing valves, the line to the tank, and distribution boxes. We check incoming pressure on every water heater call, because a pump with excessive pressure shortens everything's life. The pump down in the well is a licensed well contractor's job, and we will say so when that is what your symptoms point to. Water treatment is on our water softener and filtration service page.
Commercial work. We did years of work at the Earth2O bottling plant in Culver, and we handle commercial drain, sewer, and water line work for shops, restaurants, and ag operations around Madras the same way we handle a house: camera diagnostics first, price before work, done when we say we'll be done.
Water heaters. A dead water heater in a Madras January is a same-day job. Our larger vans carry a 50-gallon natural gas and a 50-gallon electric Bradford White unit, and we handle propane systems for homes as well. Repairs most often come down to a thermocouple or an element and generally run $375 to $650, with a one-year warranty on every repair and installation. See our water heater repair and replacement page.
Frozen pipes. Madras has seen forty below, and the lines that freeze are the ones through unheated crawl spaces, pump houses, and shop walls. A frozen line cannot be properly repaired until it thaws, because there is almost never only one break; we bring the system up to temperature safely, find every leak, and fix them one at a time. See pipe insulation.
Emergency plumbing. After 4 p.m. on weekdays and all weekend, our phones roll to a 24-hour answering service that texts the on-call technician. He calls you back himself with a real arrival window, and the flat-rate price is the same at midnight as at noon. See our emergency plumbing service page.
