Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

For several years we've had on-and-off problems with sewer backups on one side of our house, whenever we have a guest in the guest room and using the bathroom on that side of the house. Other companies would roto-root to solve the immediate problem, but never managed to really solve it all the way. Brock from Mr. Rooter told us his suspicion that the problem lay with our "Orangeburg pipes" that made up the sewer connectors from our house out some distance, and he found where a choke point was. He dug up the pipe and found it literally falling apart. He replaced it with PVC, all 30 feet from our house to a connector further out from the house, where it joints with a clay sewer. He installed two vertical sewer cleanup pipes and explained to us how each one curves in a different direction, so that a plumber dealing with any blockage in the future will know which way the rooter tool is pointing. He also answered several questions of mine about other plumbing matters, that he probably thought were really stupid, without a trace of condescension. He took time to educate my husband and me, who know very little about plumbing. Brock from Mr. Rooter was: 1) Prompt and quick to get our problem solved, even when the city had to get involved due to the digging in our yard 2) Polite and informative – did not get impatient or talk down to us, but explained what was happening in an easy-to-understand manner. Good at communicating when decision points were reached; did not leave us hanging. 3) Knowledgeable about local conditions, common pipe and sewer issues in houses of our age, and about things that are usually NOT problems. Knowledgeable about code requirements for both Columbia and Jefferson City. 4) Effective at solving our nagging, ongoing problem once and for all. 5) Neat. Even after jackhammering and digging in our backyard, the place did not look torn up at all, and of course there was no trace of our old, disintegrated sewer pipes by the time we got home from work that same day. 6) A good advocate for us with our insurance company, which keeps telling us that to get better insurance Missouri law supposedly requires us to "update all our plumbing" in order to get good insurance. Brock (as well as other contractors we've spoken with) thinks this "law" is nonsense, and he is doggedly pursuing the question with our insurance company. I like that Mr. Rooter uses a book laying out the charges for each job by the job, not charging surcharges for night or weekend work or even charging by the hour. I don't know what others would charge for the same work we had done, so I can't judge whether the $2300 we paid for the cleaning, digging and replacing was high or low, but to us, the work was absolutely worth it because it gave us what we think will be a real and lasting solution. We will certainly call on Mr. Rooter again and recommend the company to others.

Jimmie was very polite and communicative the entire time he was here. Not to mention, it was snowing/raining and was miserable outside and he stayed until the job was complete (~2 hours). We appreciate all of his effort!

We live in JC and we were getting ready to have Christmas at our house with 25 to 30 people. On a Saturday morning we started having sewer back-up issues. I first called other companies that were locally but NO ONE would come out, and when I did call other companies it sounded like they were still in bed and didn't want to deal with it. Mr. Rooter was prompt and very knowledgeable. Thank You for your wonderful service!

The customer service representatives (Amanda and Makenna) are very courteous and knowledgeable; plumbing technician Jimmie was prompt for the appointment and was able to expertly diagnose and resolve the problem with my shower. He also made sure that I was satisfied with the results before he left my home. this is my second interaction with Mr. Rooter services and personnel and I continue to be impressed.

Frequently Asked Questions About Water Heater Repair & Replacement in Butterfield, Missouri

If you want to be well-informed about water heater and hot water dispenser services, read the answers to our frequently asked questions below. Contact the team at Mr. Rooter Plumbing® in Butterfield, Missouri for more information about our services.

  • A service professional with experience in water heater repairs should be the first person you call when you’re having problems with your water heater. A licensed and insured water heater service professionals offers the peace of mind you need to know your water heater will be repaired to a high standard. Don’t be afraid to ask family and friends for recommendations or read online reviews before choosing a water heater repair specialist. Hire a water heater service provider offering guaranteed parts and workmanship so you can be confident in the standard of water heater repairs.

  • If you’ve noticed that your water heater isn’t producing hot water, check that there’s power running to it, inspect the thermostat, and look at the heating elements if you feel confident doing so. Call a trusted water heater repair specialist if your water heater is leaking due to corrosion, a loose connection, or a broken pressure relief valve. If your water heater is making an odd noise, it might have sediment buildup at the bottom that needs to be flushed to solve the problem. When you know your water heater isn’t working as it should, call a trusted water heater repair business in your area to diagnose and repair it.

  • When a water heater is eight to 12 years old or even older than that as per the manufacturer’s label, it doesn’t always make economic sense to repair it. When a new water heater costs only 50% more than repairing your old one in a year, replacement rather than more repairs can make financial sense. If you’ve had to repair your water heater several times in a short period, it is often more cost-effective to consider replacing it altogether. Depending on its current efficiency and performance, water heater replacement may be the more suitable option.

  • If your water heater is leaking from the tank, corrosion or damage might be to blame, which requires replacement by a plumbing professional rather than repairs. If your water heater is leaking from its fittings or pipes, perform repairs by checking inlet and outlet pipe connections for leaks or contacting a service professional to do it for you. A licensed and insured service professional will be able to fix your leaking water heater if the leak originates from a failed pressure relief valve. When you notice water leaking from the bottom of your water heater, inspect your drain valve to ensure the leak isn’t due to it being open or loose – you can contact a water heater repair expert to help with this.

  • Many factors can contribute to the average cost of water heater repairs, which is around $600 nationally, such as whether your water heater is new and in good condition or old and in poor condition. Whether you have a gas, electric, tank, or tankless water heater may contribute to how much you can expect to pay for water heater repairs. The costs associated with repairing a water heater can typically depend on the problem, like a faulty thermostat, a leak, sediment buildup, or a broken heating element. As labor costs can vary from one town or city to the next, your location contributes to the labor cost component of what you’ll pay for water heater repairs.

  • The costs associated with replacing a hot water heater in your home or business depends on the model you buy, such as gas, electric, tank, or tankless. Generally, water heaters with smaller tanks or lower flow rates tend to be more affordable to buy and install than models with larger tanks or higher flow rates. A range of factors can contribute to the costs associated with replacing a water heater, such as your chosen service professional, the complexity of the installation, and whether your location requires permits. To get an accurate replacement cost estimate based on the type and model of water heater you want, request an estimate from a local service professional.

  • Water heater replacement is a good idea when you’ve noticed that your current water heater is no longer efficient or economical to run. Spending a fortune on repairs is one of the many signs that indicate it’s time to replace your old water heater with a more cost-effective option. If your water heater is leaking from what appears to be a rusted or corroded tank, you need to replace it sooner rather than later. If you need more capacity, want improved energy efficiency, or simply need a system that better suits your lifestyle, consider water heater replacement before long.

  • The type of water heater you choose to install contributes to how long the replacement process takes. Most trusted water heater installation service professionals will provide a three to five-hour estimate, based on your existing system. Water heater installation can be impacted by your plumbing connections and whether your local plumber needs to fix or replace them or install new ones. If your plumbing service provider has to install a new gas line or make modifications to get your water heater to fit, such modifications typically require extra time on top of the three- to five-hour average.

  • Most water heater types have an’average’ lifespan, so find out what yours is so you know how long you can expect yours to last and when you should replace it. Most conventional tank water heaters last eight to 12 years before you need to replace them, with some high-efficiency models lasting closer to 10 to 15 years. A well-installed and well-maintained tankless water heater may last 15 to 20 years before you need to consider a replacement. You should expect eight to 12 years of use from a water heater, but a number of factors can contribute to the need for a replacement, such as its efficiency, how many repairs you’ve had to perform, and its overall quality and condition.

  • While not true in all situations, home purchasers can be particularly drawn to properties with a new and well-maintained water heater and other upgrades that justify a higher asking price. While a new water heater may not improve the value of your home, a replacement can show prospective home buyers that your property is well-maintained. Alongside a new water heater, new appliances and kitchen and bathroom remodels are some of the plumbing upgrades that can potentially increase the return on your investment. A new water heater and other plumbing upgrades can certainly be desirable to prospective home buyers, but overall market conditions in your region will also be significant factors when determining your property’s value.
